I am the Computer teacher for grades K-8, Technology Coordinator and Oasis Intergenerational Tutoring Program Coordinator.
Oasis Intergenerational Tutoring Program is a nationally acclaimed program in which volunteers, schools and students work to strengthen reading skills, confidence, and positive attitudes towards learning. This year Assumption is providing the program to students in grades 1-6. Our program has grown over the past two years to include 12 tutors. Teachers, volunteers, parents and students have recognized a positive impact in our school from this program.
Computer classes use a project-based curriculum. The goal of computer classes is to support the school curriculum and teach students how to think as well as how to use common programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher. Guided Inquiry is used to develop problem solving and critical thinking skills. Coding is taught to develop some of these thinking skills. The students use a variety of programs to encourage their creativity and attain their educational goals. The computer curriculum integrates Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, Science and the arts.
